Also Castello Querceto is happy to celebrate Chianti Classico and its three hundred years, since September 24, 1716, when the Grand Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici decided to delimit with an edict, for the first time in history, some territories particularly suitable for the production of high quality wines.
“… for Chianti it is agreed” – says the edict – “from Spedaluzzo to Greve; from there to Panzano, with all the Podesteria of Radda, which contains three thirds: Radda, Gajole and Castellina, reaching the border of the State of Siena … .. “.
The document is a kind of DOCG ante litteram and the first example of a wine origin region delimitation in Italy.
